As part of a special collaboration between the Dance Co-operative Birmingham and Beyond Words Dance, we're thrilled to welcome dance artist Jessica van de Koot to lead a dynamic professional class exploring repertoire from Beyond Words’ dance-theatre adaptation, Grief Is The Thing With Feathers.

Class description:
Drawing on Jessica’s expressive and full-bodied movement style, the session will begin with a rich physical warm-up, followed by playful explorations of the company’s signature text-to-dance translation practice. Dancers will then have the chance to discover their own interpretation of the piece’s lead character, Crow—learning Helen Calcutt’s unconventional, colour-outside-the-lines choreography. Through Jessica’s performed and practiced incarnation, learners will tap into their own creativity, with a focus on characterization alongside precision at speed, to fully embody the essence of this wild and wonderful character.
Guest Artist Bio:
Jessica Van de Koot is a London based contemporary dancer and choreographer with a keen interest in exploring her Greek heritage and culture through movement. She graduated from London Contemporary Dance School in 2020 with a first-class degree before completing her master’s in dance performance at Northern School of Contemporary Dance which included a 9-month apprenticeship with Holstebro Dance Company.
