Your co-operative

We are Member Owned, Artist-led. As an industry first, Dance Cooperative Birmingham focuses on giving freelance dance artists autonomy and agency in how their local dance ecology is run, what is prioritised & how co-op funds support future activity in the region. As a member, you will be invited to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and given the opportunity to actively engage by making your voice heard and your vote counted. One member = one vote.

Why a co-operative?

We decided to set up as a co-operative to access resources through collective membership, to operate democratically and because the core values and principles that underpin co-operative working aligned with our how we wanted to work together.

We believe this model to be well suited to the aim of making freelance working sustainable and viable career.

Event Participation

Members are invited to actively participate in meetings, social events, pro classes, workshops and in the general running of the co-op if they wish. Engaging in decision making and activities we hope will  foster a sense of agency and ownership alongside supporting a sense of community, growth, and mutual support among dancers.

Initiatives such as the Borrow Box resource are a good example of this - encouraging sustainable working practices. Members are invited to express ways in which their artistic careers could be supported through community minded initiatives.
