Our Cooperative.
As an industry first, Dance Cooperative Birmingham focuses on giving Freelance Dance Artists voting power & agency in how their local dance ecology is led, what is prioritised & how co-op funds are spent. You will be invited to attend each Annual General Meeting and given the given the opportunity to vote on how the Co-op is run and how decisions are made.
Being a Cooperative
We decided to set up as a Cooperative due to its democratic set-up, in partnership with the core values a Cooperative must uphold. We felt this was the best enviornment in which we could work together to make a real difference to the sustainability for our Freelance landscape.

A Cooperative is owned and controlled by its members and as a result creates a mutually beneficial environment. There are 10 values that all coopertives must abide by, these being: Democracy, Caring for others, Equity, Equality, Honesty, Openness, Self-help, Self-responsibility, Solidarity, and Social Responsibility.

Event Participation
Members are encouraged to actively participate in events, workshops, and performances organised by the dance cooperative. Engaging in these activities fosters a sense of community, growth, and mutual support among dancers.

We will set up a 'Borrow Box' resource, encouraging sustainable working practises. Any resources, whether that be dance flooring, tripods, costume or props are welcome and we encourage artists to propose resources that they are willing to share. All Artists will follow our code of conduct for resource sharing.
